Measure of Faith

I am convinced that many people do not understand the dynamics of Faith.  The Bible states that every Believer is given a measure of Faith. (Romans 12:3)  That seed of Faith brings us to the knowledge of Jesus and the Kingdom of God, but that is only the beginning.  We have a responsibility to nurture that Faith so it grows into spiritual energy that affects not only our lives but the lives of those around us.  Someone once said, “That Faith is like the body; it has to be fed.”  Many have just enough faith to qualify for their enrollment in the Christian community and that is about as far as they go.  If the seed of Faith is not watered by action, it will soon lose its effectiveness.  The Faith seed is germinated by action.  The more attention that is given to Faith, the more our spiritual growth will be evidenced.  When one finds himself overcome, in the sea of challenges, there is a good chance the “Faith Preserver” was left in their closed Bible.  Neglected Faith looks at the present and the past with mixed emotions, while a living Faith looks at the present and beyond, knowing that all things work together for good. (Romans 8:28)

The Apostle Paul did not look at his days in Rome as his final curtain call but as an opportunity to reach the unreachable, namely those in authority, such as Caesar and his household. (Philippians 1:12,13)  Paul’s Faith was so active that even in his imprisonment it affected evangelistic recruitment. (v.14)  At the close of his letter to the Philippians he signed off by saying that even those in Caesar’s household sent their greetings. (Philippians 4:22)

Human beings are sight and sound responders.  What influences their minds and hearts are directly related to what comes through those portals.  It is surprising to see how many Christians are influenced by the negatives in life.  Some Believers know more about political matters than they do about what really matters.  They know more about secular personalities than they do about Biblical figures.  Weak and neglected Faith will result in being caught up in circumstances, while a growing Faith walks on the rock of the Word looking for what good can come out of circumstances.   Neglected Faith encourages carnal behavior, while positive Faith displays behavior based on the Word of God.  Faith sees life as an opportunity to display God’s love.

Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. (Roman 10:17)  Every chance we have, we should be in pursuit of hearing and reading the Word.  The more we pursue the Word, the more our faith will grow.  Faith is a work under construction.  Every day there are opportunities for our Faith to grow, but we are so preoccupied with our own agendas that we miss what the Lord has put before us.

Christians start out with a measure of Faith, but the growth of that Faith rest with us!
