WEDDING VOWS RENEWAL

We gladly join you two in this desire of yours to renew your wedding vows. We all know that renewal is necessary for we are forgetful creatures and when we get some distance from even the most important events of life we tend to let the impact of them fade. We need fresh starts in all relationships. God's mercies are new every morning and so every morning we should renew our thanks and praise God for his ever renewing mercy.

So also in marriage we need to be constantly remembering what we already know. Every morning or every day at some time we should renew our expression of love and tell our mates we love them. Jesus gave us the communion service that we might go all through life and on a regular basis remember his sacrificial love for us and thus, renew our commitment to him as Saviour and Lord.

There are some things that thrive on repetition and love is one of them. We need to renew our commitments to love over and over to make sure we keep them in their proper place of priority. Lack of renewal leads to the loss of our first love for our Lord and our loved ones. Paul in this great love chapter of ICor. 13 makes it clear that love is not automatic. It does not get into first place and hold that position without effort. It is possible ever for christians to let other values move up and so emphasize other gifts that love gets pushed ont of one's life. Paul says without love even other good things are worthless. That is why he calls the Corinthians to renewal of their commitment to make love their top priority, and that is why we must renew our commitment to love in marriage. The same thing is true for love on this level. You can have great jobs and income and many things that our culture offers but without love marriage becomes empty and you gain nothing.

They say a wife and husband, bit by bit,
Can rear between themselves a mighty wall,
So thick they cannot speak with ease through it,
Nor can they see across, it stands so tall.
It's nearness frightens them, but each alone
Is powerless to tear its bulk away,
And each, dejected, wishes he had known
For such a wall, some magic thing to say.
So let us build with master art, my dear,
A bridge of love between your life and mine.
A bridge of tenderness, and very near,
A bridge of understanding, strong and fine,
Till we have formed so many lovely ties,
There never will be room for walls to rise.

A young couple were married on top of the Rock of Gibralter. They said, "We chose this site because we wanted to found our marriage on a rock." This is a noble goal indeed, but the wrong rock. Jesus is the Rock on which we are to found our marriage as Christians. In our common love for Jesus we will always be able to find a bridge over troubled waters and over the highest walls. The love of Jesus in us will enrich our relationship for time and eternity. May his love flow into you and through you to each other as you renew your marriage vows.

Vows
Before God and these witnesses, I take you to be my wife. I pledge to love you and to cherish your love. I will strive to protect you from all harm. I will seek to make our home a happy one, so that others will see the sacredness of the love with which God has blessed our marriage. I will care for you in both good and difficult times. My days I dedicate to bringing you happiness, understanding and tenderness. We shall walk together and build our love under God's direction as we seek His will for our life together.

Before God and these witnesses I take you to be my husband. I pledge to love you and to cherish your love. I will strive with you to make our home a haven and a place of peace in which the love God has given us may deepen and endure. I will care for you in both good and difficult times. My days I dedicate to bringing you happiness, understanding and tenderness. We shall walk together and build our love under God's direction as we seek His will for our life together.
