MY ONE AND ONLY NEW YEARS RESOLUTION

PROLOGUE

Legendary Alabama football coach Paul “Bear” Bryant carried an inspirational prayer around with him in his wallet. The Truth: It’s true that an inspiration prayer was found in the wallet of legendary college football coach Paul “Bear” Bryant upon his death. The Paul W. Bryant Museum at the University of Alabama campus in Tuscaloosa has confirmed that Bryant carried a poem around in his wallet titled “A New Day” that reads:

"This is the beginning of a new day. God has given me this day to use as I will. I can waste it or use it for good. What I do today is very important because I am exchanging a day of my life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever, leaving something in its place I have traded for it. I want it to be gain, not loss — good, not evil. Success, not failure in order that I shall not forget the price I paid for it."

To this brief intro I echo a big Amen!

“No arsenal or no weapon in the arsenals of the world is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women." (President Ronald Reagan) So, I hope, trust and pray that our great republic continues down this free path. So this blog is entitled “My "wOKE" Resolution.”

“Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. (Ephesians 4:29)

I’m not a fan of the old tradition of New Year’s Resolutions. If I were a mind to, my top three would be 1 - Stop making a list. 2 - Be more consistent.  3 - Learn to count.

Nonetheless, my one, and probably only 2022 New Year’s Resolution will be to not waste my time, as a dedicated Christian. Not to give way to listening to any form of news media commentary, be it individually, socially inspired or nationally given, in allowing an ungodly commentator to attempt to tell me how to live my life, secularly and most definitely faith-based.

I speak especially of those whom are now dedicated to this progressive modern-day world of woke culture. This progressive generated term is not a part of or in my limited vocabulary. I’m not a “woke”!  I’m a child of the living Creator, God. For that I shout a big Old Time Religion Amen!

You see, God's holy Scripture tells me that I’m and fearfully and wonderfully made, in the very image and likeness of my Creator.

“I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.“ (Psalm 139:14)

“And God said, Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. And God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them." (Genesis 1:26-27)

This faith-based God-given image definitely does not line up with today’s modern progressive wokeness.

I am also blessed, by my constitutional heritage of being endowed by my Creator with certain inalienable rights. These rights also do not align with the woke theory.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness - That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.  (The Declaration of Independence)

To add to these God instituted proofs of liberty, my freedom rights.

“Congress shall make no laws respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” (The Constitution of the United States of America, Amendment I)

With this given, may I continue?

According to Dr. James McHenry, one of Maryland's delegates to the constitution convention in 1787, a lady just happened to ask Dr. Benjamin Franklin at its conclusion, "Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy? Benjamin Franklin replied "A republic...if you can keep it.    “

The following is taken in part from Dr. Charles Ryrie’s study Bible notes.

“In (Romans 13:1-7) as loyal patriotic citizens of this great country of ours, the proper attitude to the state is set forth, as there is no authority except from God. This does not say, however, that only certain forms of government are ordained of God. As God has established and upholds the principle of government even though some governments do not fulfill His desires." (Deut. 32:35)

Many a loyal red-blooded American has fought and even died for the freedom of this great republic, as well as the most important degree, that being our religious freedom.  I will not ever let these efforts, for my part, ever go to waste.  No political or social intervention will ever supersede the promises of my living Creator, God.

^“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.  You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart." (Jeremiah 29:11-13)

I would be remiss if I failed to recognize or admit our great republic’s faults. We are not alone, however, for we can not only work through them, but help others along the way. Our Creator has given us, His people, a working plan, along with a promise.

“If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” ( II Chronicles 7:14)

So, to extend this one and only resolution, I will not be deceived into accepting this progressive woke theory contrary to the faith and practice of God’s law. Nor will I go against our republic's God-graced founding principles.  

…with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge  to each other our lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor. (The Declaration of Independence)

EPILOGUE

I trust you enjoyed this bit of Scripture related blogging. If so, simply go to your coffee table, dust off that big white family Bible, the one with all the family tree information, and Mom’s favorite family recipes, and read a bit. Don’t forget to start with a little prayer of encouragement, and end with a nice concluding prayer of thanksgiving.

"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness," (II Timothy 3:16)

Once, I was having some work-related issues which needed therapy. In lieu of high-cost professional couch therapy, a friend gave me some free advice. I read the book of Proverbs in the Bible, one chapter a day, for a thirty-day month. And in doing so, I kept a daily journal of my thoughts, for future reference. Yes, it worked wonders. If you feel the need, why not try it, you may like it. You, too, may recover from all that unnecessary stress. Amen! 

AN AMENDMENT

These memorials are commonly placed, here in our great God-fearing, freedom-loving republic. However, I couldn’t shake the feeling that this moving memorial display gave me.  Our lifetime is a very precious gift from God to man. Yet this individual is patiently waiting in Heaven for the glorified reunion of family and friends. Amen!
