December, the month where our hearts go agog with Christmas as the Focal Star of the Month. The Birth of our Saviour and indeed the greatest event for which Prophets waited for more than two thousand years. We are lucky to belong to the 'Now' where the Saviour has come on earth and fulfilled his 'Mission Salvation' for the entire human race.
But in order to ponder afresh this year on the Nativity of Our Lord, we have to first go a little behind to the Nativity of His Blessed Mother and more important to her Conception.
Because God having chosen her to be the Mother of her Son, granted her singular privileges in keeping her free from the stain of Sin. She is the Immaculate Conception.
If the Church has set it's seal on this Dogma, it is because Our Lady herself proclaimed the same both at Lourdes in France where she appeared to Bernadette and in Montichiari, Italy to Sr. Pierina.
The date chosen by Mary herself, 8th December and in her apparitions in 1947, announced an Hour of Grace at 12 noon where she promised to heed to any special prayer request if it was in keeping with the will of the Eternal Father.
If we go through the events of this day, back then, Our Lady appeared at the Promised hour in the Church of Montichiari where thousands of devotees had gathered after being informed by Sr. Pierina in an earlier visit by Our Lady to her that she would appear during this hour of grace.
And rightly so, as the entire Church was saying the Rosary, a great light shone from the ceiling and a staircase decked in flowers of Red, White and Yellow descended from the top.
Our Lady stood at the top of this staircase in her long white flowing robe. She called herself the Immaculate Conception, the Mother of all Graces and the Mother of her Son, Jesus Christ.
During this hour, many healings took place as promised by her. Our Lady specifically asked for Psalms 51 - The Prayer of Forgiveness to be recited thrice for the reparation of sinners. She stressed that Mankind had gone too deep in impure ways which had offended God and it was necessary to seek the mercy of God by praying for the conversion of the world. This Hour of Grace had to be installed every year on this date at Noon, where all distractions had to be set aside and an undisturbed Hour of Prayer to be offered.
I recently read a very interesting article titled, "Heart Strings" where as per medical research done on a Mother and the Baby in her womb, states that during pregnancy, the cells of the baby migrate into the mother's blood stream and then back into the baby. Even after the child is born, the cells of the baby continue to be retained in the cells of the mother for years.
The child always remains a part of the Mother somewhere inside her.
Such a wonderful thought and consoling too for women who suffer the loss of their babies in pre-term Or childbirth.!
It also is a joyful revelation that Our Blessed Mother always had within her, the cells of her Incarnate Son and God who became Man in the flesh for us.
Am reminded of a beautiful prayer by St. Louis Montfort - "O Jesus Living in Mary".
Yes Mother Mary nurtured and fed Jesus in her womb and though it was her Son who gave her life, she in turn brought him forth into this world in human form.
She cradled the Son of God in her arms, raised him up and at the appointed time, once more held his lifeless body in her arms.
It is important that we first honour the role of Mary in the history of Salvation as we progress inwards in the Advent Season.
As we build up our rejoicing status in this Advent time progressing towards Christmas, it is important to feel the full force of this thundering joy.
As Isaiah proclaimed the year of Blessing in advance, today we relive that year which came to pass in Bethlehem and we also prepare ourselves for the Second and Final coming of Christ to be either caught up in the Clouds with him or rise and live a new life with him in the Specially Prepared New Jerusalem.
The Prince of Peace is coming soon!
Let us ready ourselves to run across the hills to meet him when he comes, he should find us ready, eager and excited to see him.
For he alone can take us in his arms and give us that Heavenly Happiness as the Creator of Happy Feelings!
As it is written in the Book of Numbers, "I see him, but not now, I behold him but not near. A Star shall rise from Jacob, A sceptre shall rise from Israel."
As we reflect this Advent season, on the Readings from Isaiah and the Gospel on how St. John the Baptist prepared the way for the Lord, let us allow the Lord to work in our lives and renew us in His Love this Christmas season.
