A Mycenae Christmas

I grew up in the rural neighborhood of Mycenae, New York.

As a rule, Mom and Dad usually shopped in the nearby village of Chittenango.

Waldman’s Department Store owners had Christmas decorations, clothing and shoes on display in their Main Street windows. To my delight, all window shopping was free. I could save my nickels and dimes for their adjoining 5 & 10.  The years have flown; now, I reminisce about another window.

It was a living room window; in our Mycenae home, that faced Green Lakes Road.

I will be ‘home for Christmas’ by way of vivid memories.

I see our tinsel draped live Christmas tree in front of the window. It’s well lit with large red and green lights and fragile glass decorations dangle from branches. Outside, ice cycles hang along the top of the window pane. Inside, I’m warmed by the Christmas Spirit. I think of this window at this time every year.

Memories can be misleading.

Recently, I was saddened by a realization. My childhood home still stands but that window is gone. Mom and Dad sold the house after he retired. I’m not sure how many new owners have celebrated Christmases there but one year it was in a remodeled living room. The window was removed to make a formal front door entrance.

Soon, I’ll celebrate the birth of the Christ here in my Louisiana home.

Things change; Jesus never changes.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8 HCSB).”

Beautiful memories that remain beautiful in your heart forever. Jesus is not a memory, He is past, present and future, the Best "Present/Gift" we have ever gotten or will get. "Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever." He Never Ever changes. His Love is for all Eternity and Perfection unwavering, no matter what we do or say.
Merry CHRISTmas
