More and more the celebrations of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day blend together.
Why not add Veteran’s Day to the mix?
We recently returned from Branson, Missouri. There, city leaders, residents and tourists show their appreciation to members of the armed services, veterans and their families. Patriots are asked to stand in concerts and shows as audiences give them a round of applause.
This year’s Brett Family Christmas Show includes a Patriotic tribute titled ‘I’ll Be Home for Christmas.’ The entertainers take audiences back to the World War II era through music and military uniforms. It brought tears to my eyes.
I reminisce over a late 1950’s childhood Thanksgiving dinner.
It was a traditional Thanksgiving meal with my immediate family and relatives. We gathered around Aunt Jessie and Uncle Wallace Ford’s dining room table. I recall the presence of two adult cousins; sons of Aunt Jessie and Uncle Wallace. Don, then serving in the US Navy, Bob in the Air Force, wore dress uniforms. At a young and impressionable age, I sensed the significance of them being service men.
We should pray for all active service men and women. Many will be unable to celebrate with their families this holiday season. Ailing veterans will spend the holidays in hospitals and nursing homes.
Remember them; they have served for us.
“For I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you took care of Me; I was in prison and you visited Me (Matthew 25:35-36 HCSB).”
