Latin word Beatus means blessed. Matthew 5:3-12 termed as Beatitudes because of Latin Vulgate word Beatus which came nine times.
Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
POOR IN SPIRIT – Those who humble themselves. Revelation 3:17 - Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: This John wrote to now a days Churches. Humble exalted and vice-versa.
Blessed are those who mourn for they will be comforted.
MOURN – More trouble about sin than anything else. They perceive sin is the most dangerous. Sin made Jesus to die. Psalm 51:17 - The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. This King David told to God when repenting from Bethsheba sin and Uriah murder.
Blessed are the meek for they will inherit the earth.
MEEK – Beggar Lazarus in parable waiting for the crumbs of rich man. Revelation 5:10 - And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they will be filled.
HUNGER FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS – They have mind of God entirely. Not on riches and wealth. Psalm 17:15 - As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.
Blessed are the merciful for they will obtain mercy.
MERCIFUL – They pity all and strengthen all who have sin and sorrow. Acts 9:36 - Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did.
Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God.
PURE IN HEART – Not outward but inward cleansing. Not religious but righteous and holy. Speaks of qualification to see God. 1 Samuel 16:7 - But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. God told to Samuel in Jesse of Bethlehem house who was David’s Father.
Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called children of God.
PEACE MAKERS – Promotes peace and charity on earth both in private and public. Romans 13:10 - Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. Rescues destitutes.
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
PERSECUTED FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS SAKE – Who are mocked and persecuted and acknowledges Jesus.
Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. Rejoice in suffering remains the hardest teaching of Bible. James 1:2-3 - My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
