Gospel
Sabbath 7/27/19 Seventh Day Baptist Edgewater Pastor Keith sermon “Bold Witness” Acts 2:1-47
In our text, the Holy Ghost came upon the disciples and they began to speak in other tongues (languages). They were speaking the gospel in other tongues so that people from other countries could understand them. Then Peter began to preach about Jesus.
- God had sent Jesus to them.
- Some of the people in the crowd had nailed Jesus to the cross.
- Jesus rose from the dead. The grave and death couldn’t keep Jesus down.
- Jesus is now seated at the right hand of God in Heaven.
Peter could have preached more about the 300 prophecies in the Old Testament that told about Jesus coming. Peter said that God had made Jesus, the one who they had crucified, Lord and Savior. The Sanhedrin and Pharisees got angry about Peter saying that they had killed Jesus, the Messiah. Our sins put Jesus on the cross. He died for us so we wouldn’t have to die for our sins.
Some people do not like being called sinners. They don’t like that Jesus died for their sins and don’t want to take the blame for Jesus’s death. People don’t want to be reminded that unless they repent of their sins and accept Jesus, they will die and go to Hell. People need to be reminded that we NEED Jesus! We NEED to repent of our sins and accept Jesus’s gift of Eternal Life.
In our text, the people in the crowd were upset when they learned that they had taken part in killing the Son of God. They asked Peter “What shall we do?” Peter said to repent of their sins, accept Jesus and be baptized. It was all God’s plan for Jesus to be nailed to the cross to give us salvation. Freedom from our sin comes through the blood of Jesus Christ. People wondered why this bad thing had happened to a good man like Jesus. It was an act of unselfish love by God and Jesus Christ.
When Joseph of Aramaethia buried Jesus in his tomb, this was fulfilling another prophecy from the Old Testament. This is just like Jesus rising from the dead is fulfilling another prophecy. It is ALL in God’s plan and as we continue to walk with Jesus, God will continue to bless us.
AMEN
