Navigating the Modern Era

Should I turn away from what I see,
the world that isn't right
the future far from bright?

Should I be a Pollyanna
when things seem dark,
when there is scarce a spark?

When the tide of opinion seems wrong,
when the loudest voices are strong,
when a listening ear is hard to find,
and those who differ are not kind.

Should I turn from the media and news,
shutter my eyes to others' views,
let myself dwell in a cocoon,
and only listen to my self-sung tune?

Should I turn a blind eye to the not-so-good,
the ones who disagree
the ones that aren't like me?

Can I navigate though this big life maze?
The path's so hard to find,
when I'm walking blind.

Yes I can.

I can know I am never alone,
not travelling on my own.
I can bring all things in prayer,
To the One who's always there.

I can be a woman of peace,
though the arguments won't cease,
though the world's not rosy-sweet?
In His care I am complete.
