Egyptian enslavement of the Hebrews began in ca. 1400-900. The Israelites had been slaves for 430 years. How could God make sense at the time to a people given the promise of a whole new identity and purpose? It was too far-fetched to grasp God’s declaration of a promised Kingdom, “You shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.” (Exodus 19:6).
What a promise God remembers and keeps throughout the ages. We are meant to be kings and priests—as people of the Creator and King of the universe. (See Revelation 1:6). God’s favour does give us the sense of hope and courage in the day of uncertainty and in these troubled times.
You’re no longer a slave… not a victim… never an outcast. The LORD has set you free and called you to be a part--a grafted olive branch-- of His ‘holy nation.’ Peter says Believers are “A chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation. His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light.” (1 Peter 2:9).
Now is the time of rejoicing in your new identity in Christ!
