6/19/2021 Seventh Day BAPTIST Edgewater Pastor Keith  “Fatherhood” Genesis 27;1-40

What doest it mean to be a father? Some get the American idea of fatherhood from television. People’s understanding of fatherhood may have changed in our culture but it has not changed with God. In our text, the time for Isaac to give the blessing to the oldest son had come. The father’s blessing was very important. Isaac sent Esau to hunt for him before he blessed him. Rebecca knew this and sent Jacob to Isaac with food to trick Isaac into giving him the blessing instead. Jacob lied to get the blessing, it worked and he got the blessing. In verse 27 to 29, Jacob got a very good blessing. After all this Esau came and begged for a blessing too.

Ingredients of a Good Blessing>>>>

1)     Meaningful Touch vs 22, vs 26:

A touch that says you are loved and accepted. Jesus always touched people and blessed them.

2)     Spoken Word of Blessing vs 27:

A positive message of love through words communicates acceptance and love.

3)     Assuring Children of Their Value vs 28:

Telling them they are special and valuable. Give them your attention and listen to what they have to say. Let them know that you are there to listen.

4)     Hope vs 29:

Give them hope for a glorious future. Point your children to God. God made them special and has a plan for them.
