The heart of a comedian breaks when the audience walks out on his jokes and he exclaims, "that never happened before!"
The heart of the jazz trumpeter explodes when the drunk pours beer down the bell of his trumpet in the midst of his solo.
The soul of the artist retracts and regresses back inside the womb of his creativity which has become the tomb of his creativity and inspiration, as he de-frames paintings and rolls them up inside skinny tubes he suspects will never be opened again.
The writer's block has become a barricade bordering on permanence. Boxes of undistributed books lay under his bed during restless sleep.
There is no more demand for what they do, and there may have been precious little to begin with....
But in each and every one of these cases, what is mind boggling is that the best and most wonderful, and most defining work may be what is yet to come.
