The Christian life is not about self fulfillment but more about self denial, not about self realization but more about self-annihilation, but not for the sake of denial or for the sake of annihilation, but in order that Christ may live in us.
The Christian life is about the only solution for self, which is crucifixion of self, in order that we might rise again in union with Christ, who has overcome and who now lives within us. The Christian life is ultimately about Christ.

If we didn't go on, though, to overcome something formidable ourselves, we would feel out of place one day in heaven alongside Christ and the other overcomers who live there, those champions who populate heaven.
God will make sure we feel like we belong there by giving us something or some things challenging and significant to overcome here in the meantime. And those obstacles or challenges, or hurdles will be some situations uniquely suited to each one of us.
