There once was a person who was very satisfied with himself.  He usually kept to himself and like things that way, being a very private person. But over time he befriended someone who was much more outgoing. Whenever he was with her she was busy doing things for other people, and she would draw him into those activities. He marvelled at her enthusiasm and the passionate energy she expended in these endeavors. It was infectious and he felt more alive around her, he had to admit. After months and months of this kind of involvement he began to cultivate an appetite for it. At first he would only tolerate all the good deeds because he enjoyed the company of his friend. But after a while he began to find that he was enjoying the philanthropic engagement with others in need almost as much as His friend was.
  He began to be able to conceive of himself initiating these kinds of humanitarian actions even if his friend was not immediately present. He could see himself doing carrying out these kind gestures for others sake just out of the pure enjoyment of seeing the effect it had on the needy recipients. He realized he was no longer content with the life he had been living before he met his newfound friend. He had been gradually changed in her presence week after week. 
 His name was Knowledge, by the way, and his refreshing new friend's name was simply, Love.
