Even For Christians, Two Judgements Part 1

There are two judgements which will be faced by all. Don’t think that because you are a Christian you do not have to face judgement.

In this message I will speak of the first judgement which all shall face, which is brought to light in the following passage “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.” 2 Corinthians 5:10 NIV.

Yes, we will all have to give an accounting to Christ for every deed we have done, be it good or bad (see Romans 14:12). Furthermore, the motives for our deeds will be brought to light. Have you ever thought about what you are going to say to Jesus Christ when you are standing before the judgement seat? There will be no hiding, and the Lord already knows what was in your heart at the time you performed every deed. So, what really can be said, and yet we are to give an accounting for everything we have done.

Here are a few ideas this humble soul has to say about this matter. First off, we should admit that any bad deed we committed was out of selfishness and was in some way for our benefit. We should truly have remorse and admit that this was done out of our sinful nature. Offer no excuses or justifications as they are invalid anyway. Secondly, any good deed which we did was done out of love for God and us knowing that only in Christ can we really do what is good. The flesh is weak and if we live in the flesh, we cannot serve God. Without the Holy Spirit, the gift of the Heavenly Father to those who believe in Christ, we cannot overcome our sinful nature. Without God within us we are enslaved to sin. Yes, we can do good deeds, but not with a selfish, self-seeking heart.

No one can be our defense for us on this day. We will all need to make the accounting for our own actions. We cannot blame anyone else for what we did.

Notice that nowhere in the Bible verse quoted is there mention of a verdict. This is because the verdict comes with the second judgement, which is the topic of the next message.
