Apathy Just Might End the United States

Lots has been said in recent months about the pending decline of America. Indeed, the last 12 months feels much like an out of control roller coaster ride to the end.

Biblical prophecy buffs point to scripture showing no indication the United States plays a role in End Times theology. Thus something must occur to diminish the role of the country on the world stage.

OK, how about a controversial, and many who argue, a stolen presidential election giving rise to a progressive socialist agenda directly in contrast to the Constitution designed to neuter the country’s strength? Or violent extremist groups pitting race against race and running roughshod through cities causing immeasurable amounts of pain and suffering as well as millions of dollars in property damage with little condemnation.  Even from the pulpit. Perhaps a national media spreading disinformation, a.k.a. fake news, that many buy into because it feels good to believe yet it just pits neighbor against neighbor, family member against family member and friend against friend.

Any one of these currently active theories could end the United States’ reign as a shining city on a hill. So could a virus or economic upheaval. However the Lord decides to remove the United States from the world stage, He can also use common apathy.

You already know Twitter deleted a sitting president’s account. Facebook eventually banned Donald Trump and even fan pages. Amazon Web Services kicked Parlor, the conservative alternative to Facebook, off the internet. Other conservative voices have acknowledged being “canceled” by the Social Media Giants of Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.

Hey, I’m small potatoes that won’t affect me, you say.

The pastor of the church I attend recently told the congregation he’s surprised YouTube has not removed his sermons. Indeed, my church now has contingency plans to get sermons and Bible teachings to the flock in the inevitable event YouTube no longer allows the Truth. I used to watch these excellent videos produced by ProphecyUpdate.com - highlighting news headlines around the world showing proof of that written millennia ago coming to pass - that suddenly no longer appeared weekly on YouTube. An inquiring email confirmed my suspicion.

All of this to say, I know of only one person who deleted their social media accounts as a result of the censorship of conservative and/or Christian thought by the Social Media Giants. The fact that my church, large but hardly on par with the national mega churches, has contingency plans in place to ensure they can reach the flock because of a widely held belief of pending suspension or termination on YouTube indicates a much wider issue and pending persecution.  Pastor J.D Farage has started the process of getting off YouTube because he knows what’s coming.

So, are you still on Facebook? Instagram? How about Twitter? Then I ask WHY!?

Delete your account.

But you won’t.

You know damn well you won’t.

You know how I know? Because you won’t. You probably thought about it. Maybe you even gave yourself a deadline and/or sent a message to your “friends” that you were done. Then the emotion wore off and you decided the international TV show of your life on the internet was too important to cancel. You’re not alone. It’s how I know you didn’t and therefore won’t cancel your social media account(s).

Here’s the thing. The love if money may be the root of all evil but also, Money Talks.

If tens of thousands, even millions of Christians deleted their social media accounts, the Social Media Giants would notice. So would the shareholders. I’d encourage conservative Americans of all stripes to follow suit but the far majority enjoy the fight as keyboard warriors rather than standing up and making a difference. Here’s the dirty little secret:  Responding to online lunacy does nothing other than entertain those on the sidelines. Sadly, these folks also enjoy, perhaps even more than arguing with strangers, the limelight they shine on themselves.

Listen, I understand social media has become an important part of business marketing for some. Without an online presence you might as well be not present. Thus, in many respects you’re stuck in a hard space.  But on a personal level do you really need to post about all the daily frivolities of your life? Let’s put it this way, how often do you hear people lament the rise of social media compared to those who talk about its virtues?

Just imagine if pastors - thousands of them - around the country encouraged their flock to delete their social media accounts. But they won’t. Because so many have the same addiction as those in the pews!

The more you engage the tighter the shackles. They own you. Watch Social Dilemma. Making a difference often starts at the grassroots level so if a few clicks of the mouse requires too much effort to stand up for what you believe in then you probably never will stand up.

I wrote about the Facebook Delusion years ago. This is why I know you won’t delete your account nor will your pastor delete his account. And America will continue down this path leaving many scratching their heads and wondering how we got here.

Then you’ll wonder why things don’t change.  

But soon things will change.

And you only have yourself to blame. So delete your social media account. Then count yourself among the few who care.

Cancel them before they cancel you.
