God's Spokesman

 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; . Hebrews 1:1-2 (NKJV)

We see the word “spokesman” often on TV broadcasts, particularly at a press conference when the speaker appears on screen and the TV technicians have added a label to identify the person. However, if it’s someone making the announcement for another party, the label might read “spokesman.”   Or other times a TV reporter or anchor may give an official’s response to an issue by saying, “”A spokesman for the mayor told us that….”

Simply put, a “spokesman” is someone who represents and speaks for someone else.

Did you know that God has a spokesman? The writer of the Book of Hebrews tells us that the Lord’s first spokesmen were the Old Testament prophets who represented God and announced his messages to his people.

 So what did they say? Often the messages were God’s promises for his people, and frequently his promise of a Savior – a Redeemer. Then, says the writer, God sent his Son Jesus Christ to be the promised Savior and Redeemer and at the same time to be God’s new spokesman. Yet the new spokesman not only speaks for God but is the message personified, exemplifying and embodying in his person all of God’s previous promises.

And as such while God’s previous representative speakers were human the new spokesman is God himself.
