Conspiracy or God’s Divine Plan

       There are a number of stories in the bible that we could label as a conspiracy or God’s Divine plan. In this article, I will discuss four stories in the bible that seemed like a conspiracy but were actually apart of God’s divine plan for that individual. The first is the story of Rebekah and Jacob. When Isaac, Rebekah’s husband, Abraham’s son, was old and his vision dim, so that he could not see, he called Esau his eldest son, and said unto him; make me savory meat of venison that I may bless thee before I die. And Rebekah overhead what Isaac had asked of Esau and Rebekah told Jacob what Isaac asked of Esau and she convinced Jacob to obey her in what she planned to do to get Isaac to bless Jacob instead of Esau. She told Jacob to bring her two good kids of the goats, so that she could make the savory meat like his father liked. And she instructed Jacob to bring the savory meat to his father once she had prepared it so that he may bless Jacob before he died. Jacob did as Rebekah told him. So they tricked his father. She put Esau’s clothes on Jacob and put the skins of a kid of goats upon his hand and his neck to fool Isaac like it was his hairy son Esau because Esau was a hairy man and Jacob a smooth one. They used these devices to trick Isaac. Isaac ended up giving Jacob Esau’s birthright and first born blessing (Genesis 27: 1-30 KJV). And so was fulfilled God’s promise to Rebekah that the younger would rule over the elder. (Genesis 25:23 KJV).

          In the second story of conspiracy Laban tricked Jacob into marrying Leah because according to their customs the first born should be given in marriage first. Jacob worked for Laban another seven years for Rachel. Jacob worked for Laban for wages for twenty years (Genesis 31:40 KJV). During these twenty years Laban deceived Jacob of his wages (Genesis 31:7-9 KJV) Genesis 31:7-And your father hath deceived me, and changed my wages ten times, but God suffered him not to hurt me. Genesis 31:8-If he said thus, the speckled shall be thy wages; then all the cattle bare speckled: and if he said thus, the ringstraked shall be thy hire: then bare all the cattle ringstraked. Genesis 31:9-Thus God hath taken away the cattle of your father and given them to me. What was meant for Jacob’s harm God worked it out for his good (Genesis 50:20).

     God did the same thing with Jacob’s son Joseph the Dreamer. Joseph had dreams. He dreamed that his mother and father and his brothers made obeisance to him or bowed down to him (Genesis 37: 9-10 KJV). His brothers conspired against him and sought to kill him (Genesis 37:18) but changed their minds and decided to throw him into a pit and sell him to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver (Genesis 37:18-28, Genesis 37:22). What they meant for harm to Joseph; God worked it out for his good (Genesis 50:20). (Genesis 39:1-4-And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hands of the Ishmeelites, which had brought him down thither. And the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. And his master saw that the Lord was with him, and that the Lord made all that he did to prosper in his hand. And Joseph found grace in his sight and he served him, and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.

       The last story of conspiracy that was really apart of God’s divine plan is of Judas betraying Jesus with a kiss (Mark 14:10-11, Mark 14:43-46). If Judas had not betrayed Jesus and Jesus was never crucified we would not have the gift of the Holy Spirit and eternal life through the shedding of Christ’s blood on the cross. What was meant for harm to Jesus; God worked it out for his good. By allowing Jesus to rise from the dead on the third day after he was killed to proclaim and give unto the disciples his holy spirit and the charge of the great commission (Luke 24:44-53).
