"The Son"

When I thought about The Son, I recalled a precious One

Then I saw a rugged cross on Calvary

I tried to sense the sacrifice of a Son who gave His life

And of those who saw Him die for you and me

First I thought of Virgin Mary, Chosen One pure and true

How much I know it hurt her to see all her Son went through

I simply can't imagine how she must have felt

To see them crucify her Son as on her knees she knelt

They nailed Him to a cross, She saw the blood He shed

Yet He died to save the lost, Crown of thorns upon his head

A Mother's love so tender, Yet there was nothing she could do

But tell the King with sad surrender, My Son, forever, I'll

love You”

Then I thought of God above who gave His only Son

To show the world a perfect love from a precious caring one

God heard them mock and curse His name, Even pierced his

naked side

Before mankind He bore great shame, In my soul I know God

cried

With every lash across His back God had to turn away

How could a Father watch His only Son bear the agony that day

Then I thought about myself and I am certain most of you

To give your son for someone else, It's something we would

never do

Then I thought about The Son, The One who actually gave His

life

He'd have done it just for me alone, A willing spotless

sacrifice

But Jesus bore the burdens of us all, So we'd live eternally

He could have called ten thousand angels to come and set Him

free

Yet He didn't fight or struggle, My Saviour, strong and true

He even said "Forgive them, Lord, they know not what they do”

The "Sun" refused to shine, the sky turned gray and dark

He shed His blood, yet I know, The Son surely died of a

broken heart

But joy comes in the morning, for a new day is dawning

I wake to greet the rising sun, my sins are all forgiven

The Son I serve, His name is Jesus, The Son's alive and He is

risen
