Changing Times

Times Change

Recently as I left my local bank after making a deposit I noticed some words inscribed on the outside of the front door. Then as I removed the pandemic-required facemask I leaned down to read the words. It said: “For security purposes please remove all hats, hoods, backpacks and sunglasses prior to entering the banking center.”

Obviously that was logical since it was meant to prevent a bank robber from a potential disguise. However, as I folded up my mask to put it away, I realized that the irony of the notice since these days a potential robber wouldn’t need a hoodie or sunglasses - he could just put on a standard facemask and no one would be suspicious!

Evidently what had been a regular policy was now redundant since the times had changed!

Indeed, the recent threat of COVID has certainly changed our daily routines as we wear the masks and do “social distancing.” In fact, change seems to be an ongoing factor in our lives – except when it comes to our relationship with God.  That doesn’t change because he does not. Theologians call this constant consistency   It’s part of his character.

So what does this mean for us?  Simply that God’s promises and provisions are as reliable as he was and in a world where change is a constant factor that is certainly reassuring.
