If you get to thinking you're pretty important, try giving orders to
someone else's dog.

I've lived long enough to make some seasoned observations. One
of them is that we should not always be so quick to equate success
with God's blessing. Whenever we observe a church or ministry
that is flourishing, we need to be discerning between whether it is
really being blest of God or whether the success is due to the strong
leadership of a charismatic and aggressive leader in the strength of
the flesh.

A really successful ministry is usually the result of both God's
blessing and a strong leader under the humble guidance of the Holy
Spirit. It is so easy for a successful leader to get caught up in that
success and to start believing that they are the one responsible for
the success. It should be a group effort between the Trinity and
man, but when man becomes more important than the Triune God,
flesh takes over. That is possble and sometimes evident. We need
to be smart enough to tell the difference before we shell out God's
money to support an effort that is begging for money. God's
money should be invested wisely. It's our responsibility to be
discerning.

Hosea 14:9 (nlt), "Let those who are wise understand these things.
Let those who are discerning listen carefully. The paths of the
LORD are true and right, and righteous people live by walking in
them. But sinners stumble and fall along the way." Be discerning
-- God expects it of us.
