It's not good to live in the past, it's true, but it is good to learn from it, and even to enjoy certain memories from it. Neither is it good to live in the future, though it is good to plan for it and even to look forward to it, whether it's the immediate or more distant future. It is good, however, to live in the present, it is true, and to be fully present to those around us in it. They deserve that. The present is just what it says it is: the present is a present. But in a different sense the past and the future are also presents or gifts, because the past was once the present, and the future will soon be present too.
While we cannot truly live IN the past, there is actually no other way we can truly live except that it be THROUGH the past, that is through what took place on a Roman cross outside the city of Jerusalem and what followed the third day after, nearly 2000 years ago involving a man named Jesus of Nazareth
