The hired hand is not the shepherd, and the sheep are not his own. When he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf pounces on them and scatters the flock. The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. John 10:12-13 NIV

Here, the hired hand is really just interested in attaining his wage and really does not care about the sheep. Since he only cares about the sheep in terms of his earned wage, when evil comes (in the form of the wolf) the hired hand will leave the sheep and seek his own protection. The evil one will come in and attempt to destroy souls of those who belong to Christ and play havoc with the church.

When bad occurrences happen or evil creeps in see who really supports and stands for the sheep and who leaves seeking shelter for self. It then becomes apparent who are the hired hands and who are shepherds of the sheep, guided by the Holy Spirit. Be a sharer of God’s word. The sheep need to continue to hear God’s word.
