Longing for Better Times

I really like it when I have no relationship concerns, no financial concerns and no medical concerns.  Don’t we all?  However, life isn’t like that most of the time.

Jeremiah was one of God’s special prophets.  Nevertheless, the king threw him in prison (Jer 37).  He was thrown into a cistern (Jer 38).  He was taken against his will to Egypt (Jer 43). Neighbors rejected him (Jer 11), and also his family (Jer 12). 

He had it bad because he told the people to repent and turn to God, exactly what God told him to tell them.  The truth is not always welcomed. 

Imagine how he felt when he told the people of Jerusalem to repent or they would be taken captive and he himself was taken captive to Egypt. 

When you are experiencing some tough times, know that God is aware of every detail of what you are going through and He will be with you.  Jesus promised in Matthew 28:20, “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

As Jeremiah had to go to Egypt as part of God’s plan, so we may have to experience some unpleasantness even when we have done nothing wrong.

It also may help to remind ourself that this life is short in relation to eternity.  James 4:14 asks, “What is your life?  You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.”  

Take hope, we will have eternity with Jesus without the problems that weigh us down now.

“Dear Lord, I need you now more than ever.  Help my faith in you to grow during these turbulent times, and may I be an example of Godly trust.  Amen.”
