They replied, "Are you from Galilee, too? Look into it, and you will find that a prophet does not come out of Galilee." John 7:52 NIV
The Pharisees knew that Nicodemus was not from Galilee but this is the only retort they could come up with to his comment of seeking true justice in the case of Jesus. They were attempting to associate Nicodemus with this man from Galilee whom they hated and despised.
It is also interesting that they mention searching the scriptures for a prophet from Galilee. They conveniently forgot about or ignored the fact that the prophet Jonah had come from a town in Galilee. There minds were totally closed to any thought which did not deal with the demise of Jesus.
