Do You Mind Praying?

Christ ministered when He saw needs.  Likewise, we must be ready anytime to minister.  For example:

I was in a coffee shop when Don, an EMT, asked me, “Are you the one that just opened the new funeral home and ambulance business?”  Don became a very dependable EMT working all hours of the day and night.  

One day Don and his wife, Susie, entered the funeral home.  I immediately sensed that something was different.  Then he blurted out, “John, I have cancer and I haven’t long to live.  I’m here to make my arrangements.”  So we did.

As the weeks progressed Don’s condition deteriorated and I was called to transport him in my ambulance several times.  On the last transport he was too weak to talk.  

After getting him in bed, Susie whispered to me, “Don would like you to pray for him.”  I sensed that his time was short and I didn’t want to say the wrong thing.  “God help me,” I prayed silently.

I grabbed Don’s hand and prayed, “Heavenly Father, when we come to this point in our life, only you can help us.”  DON SQUEEZED MY HAND.  After each sentence the same thing happened.  This was his way of affirming his belief in what I was saying.

John 3:16 (NIV) was especially meaningful then, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

An hour later, the phone rang.  Don was gone.

It pays to be ready at anytime to minister to someone as Christ did.

“Thank You that Your Word promises us that whoever calls upon Your name will be saved.”  (Acts 2:21 NIV) 

Sharing Christ is my purpose and passion.
