God told Adam and Eve they could "freely" eat of the trees of the garden with one exception. (Genesis Chapter 2, v.16-17) They were led by the deceiver to focus on what comparatively little was prohibited rather than what all was permitted, and to think that one exception amounted to a curtailment of their freedom and even worse, a cancellation of it. But freedom through God's eyes and by God's definition includes boundaries, or in this case, a boundary: eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The deceiver's definition of freedom is to be in a situation where there are never any boundaries at all.
