John was a lamp that burned and gave light, and you chose for a time to enjoy his light. John 5:35 NIV
John the Baptist was not the Light that came into the world, but instead the messenger of the Light. He, through his message, was a lamp which revealed the true Light which had come into the world.
The Jewish leaders at first were intrigued by John. But after coming to him and questioning him, they chose to ignore the truth of the message which he proclaimed.
Today we face the same as John did. We share the Good News, yet so many choose to ignore the shared message that they may continue in their worldly desires. Let us pray for all souls that they will turn from evil ways and turn to the Lord!
