Why Me, Lord?

In 1947 I was sitting in Mrs C’s children church.  The chairs were disorderly and so were the children. Her lesson noted that the Jews were gathering from all over the world to become a nation again.  She emphasized its significance and encouraged us to be ready for end time events.  The warning mostly fell on deaf ears—but not mine.  That day I committed my life to Christ.

In that room were many that heard the same words from Mrs. C.  It appeared that few responded.  They had the same opportunity as I.

In Matthew 22:14 (NIV) Jesus tells a story of many being invited to a wedding.  He summarized this story by saying, “Many are invited, but few are chosen.”  There are many reasons why people fail to follow Christ. 

Some are so busy with their own agendas that they simply don’t make time for God, while others are not convinced of the veracity of the Bible.  Many don’t want to give up sinful behavior, and unfortunately there are millions who have never heard the gospel in a way they understand.

Sometimes when I share my faith, like Mrs. C, the people are receptive, and other times they are not.  Jesus called the disciples and they responded.  He also shared with the Pharisees and many of them did not.  As it says in Galatians 6:9 (NIV), “Let us not become weary in doing good for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

Thank God Mrs. C didn’t give up!

Oh, Jesus, I am so glad that I understood and responded.  You have made my life so rich!
