See how much God has yet to do in you in the light of how much God has already done. See how far you have yet to go in the happier light of how far you have already come. The fuel for traveling the distance ahead comes partly from celebrating the distance and landscape already traveled. The energy and momentum for the great work yet to be done springs in part from the rejoicing in what has already been accomplished. 
On the other ✋ hand also see the past progress in the light of what needs yet to be achieved. If we see each in the light of the other we won't grow too self satisfied and  complacent about what we've done and where we are or become discouraged or overwhelmed about the difficulty of getting where we want and need to be.
Each one of us tends to fall out of balance in one of these directions or the other, whether it's complacency over the past seeping into the present, or discontented discouragement about the daunting prospect and challenge of the future. It is good, therefore, to understand our own predisposition in this area and to guard against it
