HOW TO WITNESS TO A CULT MEMBER USING YOUR TESTIMONY

By Henry Jaegers

I have discovered that one of the greatest opportunities to share Christ with others is when a cult member like the Jehovah's Witness or Mormons comes to my door. I get excited every time they come because unlike the Christian with a testimony, they have no living God experience. They only have the religion in which they have been indoctrinated and they have no real testimony and I have found witnessing cult members be very effective. Let me share with you how to do it.

Now if you do not have a testimony patterned after the one we are teaching in this group you will be at a disadvantage because you will not know what to say. So, let me share how I do it.

When the cultists come to my door, I treat them kindly. I talked to them and ask them about how long they have been with their group and what was it that appealed to them. When they begin to tell you about their experience you'll find that they do not have a testimony of salvation as taught in the Scriptures. When they finish, a good thing to ask them or say to them is, well that's very interesting but I wonder if you were to die tonight do you know that you would be in heaven with the Lord? That should get them thinking and be interesting to hear what they have to say. And then you could share with them your testimony of what your life was like before you found Christ, how you became a Christian, and finally, with a difference, Christ has made in your life. He usually cannot expect to get the same response from them.

Sometimes when the Jehovah's Witness comes to your door he will want to argue with you about this matter of hell. That's their favorite subject. The last Jehovah's Witness I talked to, I told him that I have a different concept of Hell than what a lot of people have. The Bible teaches that if we do not have Christ in our life we are condemned already, separated from God or alienated from the life of God and the wrath of God abides on us. That's what the Bible says about a man without Jesus in his life and there is no greater hell than to know that you will be forever separated from God with no chance of ever repenting or finding heaven. The Bible speaks about outer darkness, the bottomless pit, and the lake of fire. You may not believe in these as a fact, I tell them but what could be far worse than these and to know that you are eternally separated from God and there is no hope of you ever seeing God at all. That's what Hell is. It is eternal death eternal separation with no opportunity for anything to ever change. When I shared that with the Jehovah's Witness he did not know what to say. He could not disagree with that concept because he never had time to think about it. But that is the true meaning of spiritual death. It means eternal separation from God and for those who take the literal view of the Bible the bottomless pit, outer darkness and the lake of fire is a reality reserved for the devil and those who choose to follow him.

So, you can see that when you're confident with your testimony and you have a message from God how easy it is to witness to cultists. You may even ask them if they would like to receive the Lord. Sometimes they need to think about it but at least they heard the real gospel and because you had a testimony that was effective you were able to sow the seed of God's word in the heart of another lost person.
