Church Is Essential

For the past several weeks, only what the government considered essential services were allowed to be open during the Corona Virus pandemic. Churches were not on the list of so-called essential businesses until recently, when President Trump declared churches to be essential.

For the Christian, life is more than food, drink and medicine. Gathering together to worship God is an essential part of life!

It's about time the church is recognized as essential. Before the church got the green light, secular drug and alcohol centers touted that they were open to help those trapped in the voluntary slavery of addictions (not their words). Representatives on TV argue that with hospitals and treatment places being closed, addicts are isolated and are in danger of relapsing and suffering withdraw symptoms.

Although the Christian community has been doing its best during all the restrictions, with faith-based groups that help addicts and churches holding live meetings and posting messages and recordings on the web, as a friend said, it's not the same as meeting live with others. He told me he can't wait to get back to the "No Stones in Our Hands" Recovery Bible meeting held in the Kensington section of Philadelphia. He also said Sundays now seem strange by not going to church.

Programs that God's Word to redeem souls trapped in the voluntary slavery of addiction and sound churches are more essential than secular drug rehabilitation centers. This, of course, is my opinion. But we, not the government, should have the freedom to decide what is essential!

In faith-based groups, faith and "rehab" work in tandum. Historically there has been dramatically less relapse when God is brought into the program than in strictly secular programs.

Do not forsake the assembly of saints!

"And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another-and all the more as you see the Day approaching." -Hebrews 10:24-25
