Born King…
“Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him (Matthew 2:2 NASB).”
Was Jesus the King of the Jews?
“Therefore Pilate entered again into the Praetorium, and summoned Jesus and said to Him, ‘Are You the King of the Jews?’ Jesus answered, ‘Are you saying this on your own initiative, or did others tell you about Me?’ Pilate answered, ‘I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests delivered You to me; what have You done?’ Jesus answered, ‘My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm.’ Therefore Pilate said to Him, ‘So You are a king?’ Jesus answered, ‘You say correctly that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice (John 18:33-37 NASB).”
Crucified as King of the Jews…
“Pilate also wrote an inscription and put it on the cross. It was written, ‘JESUS THE NAZARENE, THE KING OF THE JEWS (John 19:19 NASB).”
He will reign over the nations!
“The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ; and He will reign forever and ever (Revelation 11:15b NASB).”

When he later had his soldiers intercept and crush a large group of Samaritan religious pilgrims from reaching Mount Gerizim (their "holy mountain" during 36 C.E., he was recalled to Rome by Emperor Tiberius to answer for charges of cruelty and for executing men without a fair trial.
According to Eusebius of Caesarea’s Ecclesiastical History, Tiberius had died before Pilate arrived and Emperor Caligula found him to be guilty of these charges (37 C.E.) and Pilate then committed suicide as ordered by Caligula.
