A warm cup of tea at 2 AM

As I can not sleep, I got up, walked downstairs to our kitchen and brewed myself a cup of Lemon balm/chamomile/lavender Tea, and came to the living room to sit awhile.

It is 2 AM and a bit chilly in NYS at this time of year, and in this cold season of uncertainty, my thoughts drift.

Slowly sipping my tea, my insides warmed, I considered the state of life as it is and the fact so much has transpired in the past month of March 2020.

The world has altered its pace, and the place in life for thousands of souls has been interrupted. There is a new normal to adjust and adapt to for all of us.

Perhaps for the first time in our lives, we are experiencing unrest of considerable measure, and we share in the rhythm of the unfamiliar and the unknown.

We search for the roots on the ground and wonder if we will stand again and be sound. Some will lose a life, and some will lose loved ones, and some will lose what used to feel secure.

Times such as these cause many to reflect and consider if there could be a God. If so, where is he? Does he not know some fear, and some worry, and some grieve? Does he not care that some are disturbed, some are disoriented, and some are overwhelmed in it all?

Then in their troubled thoughts, they reflected and retrieved a long-ago memory tucked away in the layered years of enveloped ideas.

They unfolded these layers one by one unwrapping the familiar warmth of a treasured caring known and tasted of assured safety inside. They knew things would be OK in their questioning of the uncertainty those many years ago.

That sense, that feeling, and that emotion is the caring of a God who often shows up in human form to let you know; things will be OK.

In our wondering, life will move again, and in the uncertainty of time, the wheels will churn into cyclical, seasonal rhythms of our days, and we will be changed in ways we may not understand.

Yet in it all, we will have touched and tasted the reality of this God whose being is alive in the authentic connections and bonds we share when valuing others.

We will know things will be OK again, and in this, gain a marked realization of how precious a gift is this life.

Life nor others will never be taken for granted again, and we will unwrap a new season asking how we can make a difference in the fact we have lived.

We will reach out from our world and touch another life to let them know, things will be OK, and no matter what they face, they have a flesh being who displays the same warmth and caring of the God they tasted those many years ago.

And the people will touch and taste of this same unchanging God in their now and see He is still manifesting his deep love through humans.

In this new season, people from all corners of this world will reach outward and touch another life in the safety of this true love, and they too will be forever transformed from the God who lives and dwells among humans.

And in all the seconds of our days, we as a people will continue moving forward and unwinding meaning and purpose in the unfamiliar moments in all time, caring and loving others from the center of God's heart.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:

a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,

a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,

a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,

a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,

a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,

a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,

a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.
