Show me favor, Adonai, for I am in trouble. My eyes grow dim with anger, my soul and body as well - PSALM 32:10

We are all susceptible to anger that darkens our soul and body; anger that clouds our thinking. The decisions we make when we are angry and when we have no peace may create more problems for us than we want, much like shopping for food when we are hungry; we tend to buy more than we need. Anger is poison to the body that affect our thought, words, and our actions. We don’t see clear enough to truly assess a situation and make a wise decision. Our body responds in a way that can cause physical sickness — much like stress — and not much can console us. Like the Psalmist said, this is trouble!

A troubled soul can be damaging to us and those around us. It can ruin relationships and cause us to make irrational decisions; even in the least threatening situations. What should we do when we feel anger and when we have no peace? the Psalmist sets an example for us to follow—Pray! We should turn to God with faith that He knows our needs and will hear us. Be careful not to thrust your expectations upon God and act presumptuously to make the same errors you would have had you not sought His favor. Pray and keep praying and trusting and be sure the decision you are making is according to God’s will. You may say, “How do I know I’m in God’s will?” This is not always easy but if you are uncertain keep praying, waiting, and trusting.

A troubled soul is one that needs the love and attention of Adonai. A troubled soul is one that is begging to reach out to God for the relationship we were created to have with Him. For as long as we are in this world, our souls will experience periods of trouble, perplexity, and unease. The answer is never to turn inward, relying upon our own strength and wit but to turn to Adonai and seek his favor. Keep trusting in Adonai and He will give you the desires of your heart. One day you will say, “I am so joyful in Adonai! My soul rejoices in my God, for he has clothed me in salvation, dressed me with a robe of triumph, like a bridegroom wearing a festive turban, like a bride adorned with her jewels” (Isaiah 61:10).
