Right now, we are known by sheer numbers,
Printed upon plastic cards.
Bankers and Builders,
Doctors who treat us,
Retailers now know who we are!

'Will that be credit?' They ask,
Whenever we buy merchandise.
We proffer our card
Ever knowing our debt
Will be there by tomorrow's sunrise!

Same when we visit the Dentist,
Scanning an old magazine.
Antiseptic you smell, you
Believe all is well,
'Til you find things are not as they seem!

The next step no doubt
Will be Sci-fi
With Aliens all in a row.
Will we then grow tired
As our numbers expire,?
Only to hear 'We told you so!'
