I need eye cataract surgery.

Me and Magoo!

His vision problems differed from mine; Mr. Magoo was nearsighted. To complicate his dilemma, he refused to admit the problem.

My optometrist diagnosed me with cataracts a couple years back.

I did nothing.

Eventually, I made an appointment with the ophthalmologist she had recommended. He confirmed her diagnosis. To his credit, he did not pressure me to schedule surgery. He said I should see him the next year. 

As it turned it, my next appointment was more urgent. I had an unwelcome guest for Valentines’ Day of last year. Shingles unpacked its bags on my forehead and bedded down in my right eye. It was very painful and scary. He assured me that I’d be fine and that there was no damage to my vision.

My vision could be much worse but I’m not kidding myself; it could be much better. I passed a DMV eye test recently but I cannot read road signs off in the distance. My husband can. That was a red flag. I scheduled an appointment with my specialist; telling the receptionist, I was ready to schedule cataract surgery.

I saw the doctor again last week. He examined my eyes and shared his professional opinion. The vision in my left eye is worse. The right eye is a little better; yet, it has minimal scarring from the shingles episode. I said that I was ready for surgery.

The cataract procedure is early tomorrow morning.

I’m not sure how long I’ll be away from my computer. I do hope to return to my writing with a renewed vision.
