SILENT HEARTS

The re-occurrence of that which has re-occurred
Over and over again
Each rendition a renewal of stronger emotions
Unimagined
Then subliming to mix with the mundane
Till another occasion-

These occasions of the eventful in the midst of the uneventful
Individually intense experiences
That the rest of mankind hardly
Perceives
When truth is a moment lived in an intensity of loneliness
In the midst of the crowds-

How does one know who has just lost everything
Or received the life changing gift of a lifetime?
How does one see the grieving heart relieved of the burden,
The burden of caring for the terminally sick?
Can anyone, not immediately touched
Feel the depth of the numbness of a love of one’s life
Dissolved in the puddle of the stream of eternity?

Who knows the weight of a mourning heart
But the bearer of quiet sorrows?
Who knows the weightlessness of immeasurable joy
But the heart overflowing with all things bright and gay?
Who knows what true pain is but the sufferer?
Who can share the despair of the displaced mind
Caught in the twirling winds of changing circumstances?
When disaster takes a way the world from the lonely hearts
Does the world notice it?
When the light of the world is extinguished in a moment of agony
Does the world’s light go out?
Does the howl of the tormented
Cause goose pimples on the unheeding?
Who shares the true depth of the deeper emotions of others?

Silent hearts with cold faces
Frozen in a moment when maturity descended suddenly, unexpectedly
Walking the quiet paths of the silently despairing
Shedding the heights and the depths of the human essence
Silently walking through the midst of the unaware
Their silent stories of life’s experiences, light or heavy
Playing its melody perfected in repeated encores- to the self-

You know how to communicate emotion with words. This is deep and moving.
