Very early in the morning, the chief priests, with the elders, the teachers of the law and the whole Sanhedrin, made their plans. So they bound Jesus, led him away and handed him over to Pilate. “Are you the king of the Jews?” asked Pilate. “You have said so,” Jesus replied. The chief priests accused him of many things. So again Pilate asked him, “Aren’t you going to answer? See how many things they are accusing you of.” But Jesus still made no reply, and Pilate was amazed. Mark 15:1-5 NIV
Pilate was amazed at Jesus’ silence. What do we do when Jesus is silent with us, as with our prayer requests? Do we get discouraged and feel that He does not care about us? That certainly is not what we should do. There can be several reasons why our Lord is silent. First, He may not actually be silent, but we think He is because we only seek a certain answer, and do not really listen. Second, the Lord might wish to test our perseverance and faith. Often something is best when one needs to wait for its forthcoming. Third, our request may not truly be in our best interest. The Lord knows that which we truly need and does provide for our needs. Can you think of other valid reasons why the Lord might be silent in responding to you? The important thing is to not think that He does not care. That is a lie from the evil one. Do not get discouraged. Persevere and let your faith in the Lord be strengthened as you wait for His word.
