Modern technology does not provide you with the excuse to be late, act rude, ignore others, or distance yourself from the world in a manner that is inconsiderate.
--June Eding, Author
“Manners That Matter Most”
It never hurts for one to ‘bush up’ on their manners, especially in modern social situations--where technology seems to be more important than the humans who use it. Enter the work by June Eding, entitled: “Manners That Matter Most: The Easy Guide To Etiquette At Home And In The World” (2019, 160 Pages, Hatherleigh Press).
Here’s a tip for those of the Millennial and Generation Z generations: Manners DO matter. In fact, many STILL consider manners on the same level as ‘class’ in our society, a kind of unwritten set of rules that can ensure success and upward mobility. A young man or young woman who is not in tune with how to carry themselves in a variety of social (and personal) situations will quickly be dismissed by those in attendance as a ‘social lightweight’. To carry that label will block one’s efforts to move up in employment, and move ahead in a variety of social settings--some of them ‘staged’ as tests by middle and upper management types to determine future promotion.
Eding puts together a short, powerful work that brings out those social skills one USED to learn at home, or in school. First, she explains the ‘why’ of manners, and how they can benefit many an individual who may be navigating the seas of life and adulthood. Later in the work, Eding provides a section containing 25 Essentials to Good Manners. Rounding out her work, comes tips for dining, hosting a party and holding conversations with guests so as not to bore them.
“Manners That Matter Most”, is an invaluable ready-to-go work that can fit in a purse or Bauer bag with relative ease. It may quickly become an important part of an up-and-comers arsenal, whether seeking admission to college, or a promotion on the job. With more and more employers using manners as a means of employment in the workplace, you may need to get two.
