As a growing child naturally speaking becomes more and more independent of its parents as he or she matures, so a growing child spiritually speaking becomes more and more dependent on his or her Heavenly Father as the maturation process continues.
So an enlarged heart would not be a good condition naturally speaking, but an enlarged heart in a spiritual sense is one that's expanding in awareness to include more and wider concerns and to care about more and more people,  and also to care about them more deeply.  As the high priest in the Old Testament of the Bible (See Exodus 28) carried stones on his breastplate and shoulders representing the different tribes of Israel for whom he felt a certain responsibility to pray and offer sacrifices.
