‘.... nor shall you practice divination or soothsaying. ‘Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God.
Soothsaying - the practice or art of foretelling events. a prediction or prophecy (from false sources). to foretell events; predict.
Divination - the practice of attempting to foretell future events or discover hidden knowledge by occult or supernatural means. the art, practice, or gift of discerning or discovering future events or unknown things, as though by supernatural powers. a prophecy (from false sources).
This attempt to tell the future, usually with the help of snakes, clouds and demonic supernatural powers (the occult) was a common ancient way of foretelling good or bad future. This is also very common TODAY online (from many websites that seem harmless), in newspapers, magazines, radio and television! God condemns it because it is NOT one or any of the gifts of the Holy Spirit and so lacks the power, authority and approval of God and His Word. It's forbidden by God because it's the counterfeit, imitation and false copy of the gift and ministry of Biblical prophecy or Word of knowledge.
These are activities of evil spirits designed to seduce people, especially weak, gullible Christians away from God and Biblical spiritual gifts and manifestations that operate ONLY within the Church of Jesus Christ. Beware and stay away from horoscopes, mediums, whoever or whatever medium that claims and attempts to foretell your future no matter how accurate, positive or convincing they may be. Spend time in God's Word and prayer and the Holy Spirit in you will reveal to you things to come directly or through other Spirit-filled believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, especially during fellowships, Church services and other Christian gatherings that glorify God and His Word.
John 16:13.
When the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.
1 Corinthians 14:2,14.
Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy. Since you are eager to have spiritual gifts, try to excel in gifts that build up the church.
1 Corinthians 12:7,10,11.
Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good of the body of Christ. .....to another the Holy Spirit gave the gift of prophecy..... All these are the work of one and the same Holy Spirit, and He distributes all His gifts to each one, just as he determines.
