THANKSGIVING AND PRAISE - A DIVINE PROTOCOL.
For me and everyone, as we're bombarded by the challenges of life, Satan's attacks and lies, it's easier to identify with and dwell on the negatives than it is to identify and appreciate the daily gracious blessings of God. We must not yeild to it. You reading this know that you have been waking up daily to another new day for a while now. It takes a lot to get that seemingly simple process done everyday! We have over a thousand reasons to be thankful to God, the source and giver of life and every good thing imagined. And God is capable of providing whatever we need - even the impossible.
However, in approaching Him in prayer in the name of Jesus Christ, we have to understand the importance of thanking and praising the Lord because of who He is and what He had already done and still doing in the shadows for us through Christ Jesus, that we often take for granted. Many times, we're too immature, selfish and self centered to remember that. So, we keep worrying, complaining and fretting, impatiently banging at Heaven's door for more attention, asking and asking for more, forgetting about what God has done for us and so forgetting to give Him thanks and praise. Nobody loves to keep giving to an ingrate! Let's approach the Lord properly, reverently and thankfully. He's a good, great God who loves us passionately.
Psalm 100:4.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.
Prayer is more of a relationship than just a two way communication. A cordial relationship lubricates, enhances and strengthens communication, making it more effective. Approaching the Lord in prayer, we should see it first as another wonderful, privileged opportunity to boost our ongoing relationship with Him. So, we open our hearts, admitting our faults, mistakes and disobedience, in repentance. Proverbs 28:13; 1 John 1:9; 1 John 2:1-6. The blood of Jesus Christ then cleanses us, setting our conscience free from guilt, fear and doubt.
Next, we need to forget our failures, needs and complaints at this point by remembering to give thanks, praise and worship to the Lord, counting our blessings. This divine protocol will boosts our love and dependance on God and so greatly enhances answers to our prayers, spiritual growth and development.
Psalm 103:1-6.
Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name. Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me. He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s! The Lord gives righteousness and justice to all who are treated unfairly.
It's so important we do this, because it will heal our doubtful, fearful hearts, revive and energize our faith and love and then steady our focus on the Lord. The joy, assurance and confidence we should feel will know no bounds. That's the way we approach and receive from our Heavenly Father speedily and abundantly in order to be a blessing. Hallelujah!
