Recently, a teacher explained to me that she was, “collecting all the evidence”, for a School Review that was being conducted to check that programs and procedures complied with the regulations. Her comment ‘all the evidence’ reminded me that we have many expectations placed on us in the form of obligations, regulations, protocols, prerequisites, rules, guidelines, contracts, and laws – whether from family, friends, governments, clubs, employers, law courts, or God

Sometimes, these expectations can be very burdensome – especially if we don’t like to be told what to do, or we think they’re unfair – but the consequences (risks) of ignoring them can be serious.  Missing an appointment with Social Security can lose you benefits; forgetting an assignment can mean failure; missing training can get you cut from the team; drink driving can mean an accident; betraying a trust can lose friends; and committing a crime can mean imprisonment, or even death.  No amount of good deeds, expressions of sorrow, or excuses can help us if we are guilty, but sometimes we may have the option to ask for mercy.

Recently, we got a speeding ticket, so we wrote a letter asking for special consideration based on our previous good record.  The ticket was cancelled.  Sadly, I got another ticket a few months later, so they still got their money.  I have to go 3 years without a getting speeding ticket, before I can ask for special consideration again.

One day, we will ALL stand before God and give an account (review) for everything that we have done in our lives. Some think we will be okay, so long as our good deeds outweigh the bad ones.  Others think that a loving God will just let us off.  A few  hope that God wont even turn up. But, if we ran our legal system this way, there would be complete chaos.

BUT, GOD has made a way to have our sins cancelled through Jesus.

Easter celebrates the fact that Jesus took the punishment for our sins upon Himself, so that whoever believes in Him can be genuinely acquitted, and have a new life. As the scriptures say,“...He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The punishment fell on Him for our well-being...All of us like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; BUT the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him.”                                  Isaiah 53:5,6

We are ALL guilty of rebellion against God and deserve to be punished, BUT God in His love and mercy sent Jesus to save us. When you stand before God to have your life reviewed, and all the evidence is presented, will you trust in what Jesus has done for you or will you stand on your own record and hope for the best?

This is such an important message. It's sad that so many churches neglect to teach this? People's eternal souls are at stake! We don't need soft-peddled messages.
