What an intimate image and sacred gesture it is to dry another's tears. God will wipe away the tears of His beloved people we are told in Revelations 21. This is no God in the distance. Someone has to be priviliged to come so very close to wipe away our tears, someone who sees us at our most vulnerable. When we were children it may have been a parent, especially a mother. As adults it may be a spouse or a good friend. God is all of these in one and more to us, as well as our heavenly bride groom and best friend in Jesus Christ. The tears of His bride are sacred indeed.
