Welcoming Children

He took a little child whom he placed among them. Taking the child in his arms, he said to them, “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.” Mark 9:36-37 NIV

Children depend on their parents or those entrusted with their care. They realize that they are not capable for providing for all their needs. So it is with children of God. They know that they cannot provide that which they truly need. Instead they put their faith in God, that He will take care of their needs. This is what God wants. He wants to know that we realize our dependence upon Him. He wants us to come to Him in prayer, asking for that which we need.

Jesus tells us that we are to welcome children. This includes children of God. How do we do this? We share God’s word with them. We provide for them according to our resources and our ability. What we do not do is belittle them or pick on them if their beliefs are not exactly equivalent to ours. We are one body in the Lord Jesus Christ. Let’s make sure our words and our actions reflect such.
