Then Jesus left the vicinity of Tyre and went through Sidon, down to the Sea of Galilee and into the region of the Decapolis. There some people brought to him a man who was deaf and could hardly talk, and they begged Jesus to place his hand on him. After he took him aside, away from the crowd, Jesus put his fingers into the man’s ears. Then he spit and touched the man’s tongue. He looked up to heaven and with a deep sigh said to him, “Ephphatha!” (which means “Be opened!”). At this, the man’s ears were opened, his tongue was loosened and he began to speak plainly. Mark 7:31-35 NIV

At one time some of us were deaf and mute. How is that, you ask? At one time some of us were deaf to the message of the Gospel, living a life enslaved to sin. Blessed be that our Lord rescued us. Since we were deaf to the Gospel, we were also mute, in that we could not share it since we had no understanding of Christ and His saving work. But now that we have heard the message, we are thus obliged to share it with others. We do not sit on the Good News, nor hide it like a treasure. It is a priceless treasure which must be shared. Now that the Lord has opened your heart and soul, your ears and your mouth, share the Good News. Christ will do the rest for those who truly hear the word.
