To their credit, most mothers and grandmothers cook or bake something that becomes a favorite. My husband had two favorites; his mothers chocolate pie and Granny LaMaster’s banana pudding.

He likes my micro-waved scrambled eggs. I top them with tomatoes and cheese; sometimes I add onions & green peppers. My sister Donnas' corn chowder recipe still gets raves. Our grandson Ashley wanted my French toast every time he visited. If still living, today would have been my Mom’s 97^th birthday.

I miss her molasses cookies.

She used her mother’s molasses cookies recipe. Mom dropped large servings of the batter from a spoon onto a cookie pan and placed them in the oven. An aroma of spices filled the house and wet our appetites for what was to come.

While baking, many cookies expanded to the size of cup saucers. I liked mine warm with a glass of ice cold milk. Mom packed the cookies in our school lunches and offered them to us as after school snacks. Many ingredients in treats have no nutritional value but molasses is actually good for you.

According to one source, regular use even discourages gray hair.
