Then Jesus’ mother and brothers arrived. Standing outside, they sent someone in to call him. A crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, “Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you.” “Who are my mother and my brothers?” he asked. Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.” Mark 3:31-35 NIV
Do we truly take Jesus at His word? We should. All which Jesus tells us is truth and is meant to be accepted as such. Do you have times when you feel worthless, and wonder about Jesus’ love and care for you? Well, look at what Jesus tells us here. Whoever does God’s will is brother, sister, or mother to Christ. This is not meant to be taken lightly. Jesus is the Son of God and works for the advancement of the Father’s kingdom. We who follow in Christ’s steps are children of God. We are working for that which Jesus worked for while here on earth. Really think hard about this: How does it feel to know that you are brother, sister, or mother to the Son of God? If that does not send chills down one’s spine, I don’t know what would. We need to really reflect more on what Jesus says to us in scripture, and not just quickly scan over it. The Word of God is meant to truly enlighten our spirit. Let us not let anything get in the way of being all that God wishes us to be.
