Regularly reading my Bible is not a bore or a chore: it is merely musing through verses to ponder and wonder over.  They are principles, precepts, and precious promises to me, and to all His sons and daughters.  They are a love letter from God who wants people to know Him, His ways, and His thoughts.

In short, that Word I am reading is alive and powerful and sharper than a two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12).   It is God giving me the peace of His mind…And I thank Him for it.  And I delve deeper into it.

Yes, although the LORD is lofty, Almighty, and All powerful, He stoops to relate to a sickening sinner such as me.  Go figure…And that is just what is written in the Word I sometimes don’t want to read because I am just not into it, or I am just too busy for it, or I just don’t understand it.

And yet, regular reading of it, just a short verse, a little passage, or a chapter has opened my eyes to realize Someone like Him could want someone like me.  I mean, He’s the Master of everything.  He called forth creation with the words of His mouth.  And yet, puny and pathetic as I am God simply adores me so much He paid my sin penalty with His own life.

And He wrote a book to prove it.

He dotes on us.  He delights in giving us the desires of our hearts when we’re reading His Word and when we’re keeping it.  And those desires He grants will glorify Him, show how sweet He is to His children, whom He called us to be, and will be to our eternal benefit.

Why, I can’t remember a prayer for something that would make me happy that He didn’t grant…or having all my needs met because I simply asked and trusted Him.  And I knew that I must ask because Jesus told me to ask in His Word.  And if I hadn’t read His Word, I wouldn’t have known to ask.

In fact, Jesus Christ—our Savior, our Master, our King, our Brother, and our Best Friend—is the Word of God says the Scriptures: “In the beginning was the Word of God, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was in the beginning with God…and the Word became flesh and dwelt among men” (John 1: 1,14).

So, reading God’s Word is like reading His mind.  It is Him talking back to me.  I pray to Him with words, and He talks back to me with His Word.

By the way, after all He went through to procure a relationship between believers like you and me and Almighty, Loving, Holy GOD, the least I can do is find out what He is like, what His interests are, and what He wants from me.  I mean, all of us are going to spend eternity with Him one day, anyway, so why not get to know Him now?  Just a thought…

And so, I read a little each day.  Just a small verse or two.  Maybe a short passage.  Or a chapter even. I just ask God to help me understand it, then I read as much or as little as I want.  God doesn’t want to force feed me His Word, or force feed anyone else to, either, for that matter.

And in this way, I have come to know what a wonderful, kind, sweet, and sensitive soul He truly is.  And I would never have known all that had I not read a Book He even bothered to write in the first place.  Yes, “The LORD is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and of great mercy.  The LORD is good to all, and His tender mercies are over all His works.” The good Book says all that, too (Psalm 145:8,9)!

I’m so glad I read that because now I am not so scared, rattled or intimidated by life.

Praise God for His Word to the wise—we Christians…
